Demographics: The breakdown of racial and ethnic groups are: White (67.20%); Asian (12.41%); Hispanic or Latino (8.34%); Black or African American (6.55%). The median age for residents is 36.1. According to the 2020 US Census, the median household income was $121,313. 

Brief History: The city of Apex was first incorporated in 1873. Apex received its name from being the highest point along a 30-mile section of the Chatham Railroad. The city has water flowing to two separate rivers on either side of Salem Street, thus adding to the name. Starting as a railroad community, Apex began to grow as a popular place to settle outside of the capital city. The lands proved to be well for tobacco farming, attracting many farmers from surrounding areas. The city saw another population boom with the growth of the Research Triangle and tech industries arriving in the area, going from 5,000 people in 1990 to almost 60,000 people today. 

Area Info: Apex is a suburb of Raleigh, being only about a 20-minute drive from the city. The city encompasses the community of Friendship and has many popular neighborhoods. Apex was even named the number one place to live by Money magazine in 2015. Residents can also enjoy the many festivals held throughout the year such as PeakFest and The Apex Music Festival.

Amenities: There are many options for shopping and dining in Apex. Visit popular shopping spots such as Beaver Creek Crossings, Beaver Creek Commons, Lake Pine Plaza, Nichols Plaza, and the many local shops and restaurants in Downtown Apex. Visit quaint shops such as the Rusty Bucket, which sells home furnishings that take you back in time. Another popular spot is Anna's Pizzeria, a family-friendly restaurant in one of the historic downtown buildings. 

Parks and Recreation: The Apex Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department manages eleven parks with one new one currently being planned. Within these parks, there are multiple playgrounds, sports fields, greenspaces, ponds, a dog park, walking trails, and picnic shelters. The department also manages a community center, a senior center, and the Halle Cultural Arts Center. Enjoy multiple events and programs planned for all ages throughout the year. 

Public Transportation: The City of Apex is served by GoApex. GoApex provides bus routes throughout the city and allows access to connecting routes of GoCary and GoTriangle which can bring residents to the surrounding areas. 

Education: Schools within Apex are managed by the Wake County Public School System. There are currently eight elementary schools, five middle schools, and three high schools within Apex. There are also three private schools and one charter school. The city is also very close to many of the country's top universities located in the Research Triangle.
